Welcome to our Wiki!
Generally speaking, our webquest idea is to have high school age students hold a debate over the topic: do students learn math better in co-ed classes or classes segregated by gender?
Students are to use the web to research the topic: first by studying the history of mathematics scholarship (they should notice a lot more male than female mathematicians), do research on the topic, and then develop well-organized materials (supported by documented research and opinion) so that they can hold a debate on the topic. The webquest also involves them doing some research on what a debate is, as well as ways of organizing their research through graphic organizers. Students may choose which side they would like to be on, though teacher involvement may be necessary if there are too many people on one side or the other. The teacher may also need to assign students to cooperative learning groups, to ensure that groups are composed of students with complementary skill sets, learning styles, and backgrounds.
